universal space “problem”

streeterville, il | 100,000sf | universal program

A treehouse in the city, the Universal Space “Problem” is tested towards an experience; space propped into the sky is for the amusement of visitors, and liberation for the park below.  A singular casted core provides means of ascension, as well as the single point of contact between ground and sky.  Cantilevered timber trusses move lateral forces into the core, and dually create a thick foliage in which programs kindly nestle in.  An oculus at the top embellishes the heart of the project, as it celebrates the light and water which help the project to function.
